David and I rescued Henry from an animal shelter last year. We love him so much. He’s been so good for us. Henry motivates David to keep moving even though he’s hurting.

Henry is a great guard dog. He always lets us know when someone is approaching our house. He tries to jump through the front door at the people who leave flyers on the door knob.

Henry guards the perimeter.

A few weeks ago I had to call the police. A man pulled up in his car in front of our house. The blinds were open so I saw him get out of his car with some papers in his hand. I thought he was going to get a flyer since our house is on the market. I had just put Henry in the back yard. The man was wearing jeans, a tee shirt, sunglasses and a ball cap. He made eye contact with me and then walked on the side of my house between me and my neighbor.

I ran to the back door and got Henry. I locked all the doors and set the alarm. And waited. Nothing happened. Henry must have sensed I was nervous because he sat in front of the window watching. He was so comforting.

Keeping the family safe from burglars and squirrels since 2008.

The man clearly wasn’t a meter reader or repair man. My neighbor works during the day so I knew he wasn’t there for my neighbor. After a while, I decided this was too weird. I called the non-emergency number for our local police department and asked them to drive by the house. They put me on hold for a moment, and then came back asking me all sorts of questions. What was the man wearing? What did he look like? Could I see his license plate number? I was surprised at how seriously they were taking this situation.

The police drove around the neighborhood several times. They spoke with me and my neighbors. Eventually they found the man. He had a permit for door to door sales. He told them that he parked in front of my house because he thought my house was vacant.

The man is either a liar or has a mental defect. All the blinds were open in my house. All the lights were on. There was a car parked in the driveway. Not to mention, it looked like he made eye contact with me! And what door to door salesman comes at 2 o’clock in the afternoon? And door to door salesmen wear dress shirts, not tee shirts and a ball cap!

Henry the guard dog

Every time the police came to the door that day, Henry was barking and jumping at the door and windows. The police officer who first came to the door told me I had a good guard dog. Hear that, Puppy? The cops think you’re a good guard dog!

A Young Wife

P.S. Here’s a video of Henry barking at a squirrel in our yard. He does the same (or worse) when it’s an actual person in the yard.
