Visit With Maegan

29 Mar

My friend Maegan came to New Jersey for a ten day visit.

We had a wonderful time, but the highlight of the trip was Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The farmland was so pretty and green. The people were kind and friendly. We ate at two different Amish restaurants. Both were wonderful. Shoo-fly pie is delicious!

We did lots of shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. They have a brilliant marketing strategy. There are signs everywhere telling you the story of the buildings and the people who make the items you’re purchasing. The quilt shop? They sell stuffed animals and Christmas ornaments made from remnants of salvaged antique quilts by two sisters. The jam and jelly shop? You can see the Amish women making the jelly and relish in the open kitchen. Oh, and you can sample absolutely everything. From sweet potato butter to Danson plum jam it was delicious! And they ship all over the US.

Friday Fragments

Hallelujah! David’s bad rheumatologist refilled his Humira. He doesn’t believe David has Psoriatic Arthritis and wants him to discontinue Humira. I was worried he was going to give me a hard time about the refill. We’re still waiting for our new health insurance cards so we can start looking for a new rheumatologist. But, we’ve got another 90 day supply of Humira!

Thank You Army and Navy

Dear U.S. Army and U.S Navy,

Thank you so much for arranging your little football game so my best friend, Maegan, could come to see me! I just really appreciate all the effort y’all went to.

Friday Fragments

*David can still recite the periodic table of elements. He memorized it in high school. And he can still recite the whole, “Friends, Romans, countrymen: lend me your ears,” speech. Maybe memorization is his super power.

*I’m almost done Christmas shopping! Christmas can’t come fast enough for me this year because we’re going home to Texas. I keep having nightmares that I’m in Dallas, but all the presents are still in New Jersey, or I step off the plane with one change of clothes to get me through two weeks or the most recent, I realized I only had two days left in Texas and I hadn’t even seen Maegan, yet!

Our Trip Home to Dallas

14 Aug

Our trip our home to Dallas was wonderful. We were there for a week, but it didn’t feel long enough. I miss being hugged so often. I miss the Southern charm and politeness.

One night Maegan made amazing enchiladas and these adorable cake pops. The next day we went to the mall because I wanted a good pair of classic black pumps. We found a pair of Calvin Kleins on clearance in the very first store we entered. I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before.
