My Epic Fail as a Caregiver

7 Nov

I have failed as a caregiver. This is really an epic fail. When David first went gluten free, I was so careful to read labels. I got a little more comfortable as time went on. When David went dairy free as a part of his anti-inflammation diet, I was cooking everything from scratch anyway, so I wasn’t as careful. There are only a few prepackaged items David eats now. One is tortilla chips, the other is cereal.

The cereal David has been eating has gluten.Thank you Arthritis Ashley for pointing this out to me. I completely forgot about malt.

Greetings from Virginia!

Greetings from Virginia! David is in training this week, and Henry and I have camped out at the hotel. I had planned to do a lot of writing while David was in class each day, but the motherboard in David’s laptop died. Our iPhones make it possible for us to check email, and things like that, but writing is frustratingly slow on a phone.

Mostly I’ve been reading and knitting. I’m perfectly happy being stuck in a hotel room all day. It’s not much different from being stuck in our apartment all day, except I have less work to do.

Our hotel room has a kitchenette, and I’ve done a good bit of cooking trying to keep David gluten free and dairy free. He has eaten out a few times, and had dairy, but he seems to be okay. In fact, he’s walked Henry a lot on this trip.

The Verdict on Gluten

18 Feb

Going gluten free hasn’t been nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Even eating out wasn’t too hard. My mother found some gluten free Betty Crocker mixes at her local Kroger. The brownies were good. Very rich. They tasted like dark chocolate brownies. So David hasn’t even missed out on baked goods.
