A Young Wife’s Tale

Most people have keys to their house. I don’t. I have a garage door opener. With our house on the market, my key is in a lock box on the front door. A garage door opener doesn’t work if the power is out. So Henry and I sat in my car until David got home and unlocked the door. We talked to the neighbors that live behind us. They said that Henry had not been happy about the storm. They said he was pacing on the porch and growling and the storm. He was pretty upset. So upset, that David and I couldn’t get him to get out of the car for ten minutes. We pulled and pushed and finally got him to come inside. We dried him off and gave him a milk bone. He was still pretty upset.

Honestly? We’d have a baby right now if we could. But we can’t. With our chronic illnesses and all our medications, we are currently physically incapable. It’s very difficult being told you cannot have children until you’re healthier. And the doctors have no idea when that will be. It could be a month. It could be a year. It could be ten. Adoption isn’t an option. With our poor health, we wouldn’t even qualify to adopt. Plus, I can’t take care of David and a baby. We truly cannot have children until we’re healthy.

We rescued him from our the pound when he was three months old. I bought him for David as an anniversary present. So David thinks Henry is his puppy. But I know he’s mine.

I went to a lovely ladies retreat Friday night and Saturday with some ladies from our church. It was a wonderful time of food and fellowship. It was really nice to spend time with other people and not have to think, “Oh, we should probably leave soon. David’s back is probably hurting.” David enjoyed hours of un-interrupted video games. Friday night after I left he took Henry for a walk (Yippee!) and then played video games until four in the morning. He didn’t even eat dinner. Here’s a direct quote from David: “I haven’t done that since…how long have I known you?”
