The Psoriatic Arthritis

26 May

This was originally posted on April 25, 2009. It was the second blog post I wrote. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come. And to know David’s arthritis could be this bad again.

My husband, David has Psoriatic Arthritis. He was diagnosed a year ago, at age 23. He’s only ever had mild psoriasis on his scalp. We actually didn’t know it was psoriasis until the rheumatologist told us. David has a family history of rheumatoid arthritis, so we were relieved to know he does not have the rheumatoid factor, although I recently learned that it could develop into rheumatoid arthritis.

Greetings from Virginia!

4 Nov

Greetings from Virginia! David is in training this week, and Henry and I have camped out at the hotel. I had planned to do a lot of writing while David was in class each day, but the motherboard in David’s laptop died. Our iPhones make it possible for us to check email, and things like that, but writing is frustratingly slow on a phone.

Mostly I’ve been reading and knitting. I’m perfectly happy being stuck in a hotel room all day. It’s not much different from being stuck in our apartment all day, except I have less work to do.

Our hotel room has a kitchenette, and I’ve done a good bit of cooking trying to keep David gluten free and dairy free. He has eaten out a few times, and had dairy, but he seems to be okay. In fact, he’s walked Henry a lot on this trip.

Christmas 2009

28 Dec

Christmas 2009 was great! Christmas Eve morning, David and I slept in. I made smoothies for breakfast, and we had just settled on the couch to drink them and watch a Christmas movie when my mother called. The weather man was reporting that Dallas would have whiteout conditions by noon, and we needed to head to the suburb where both my parents and in-laws live so we wouldn’t have to drive on the freeway once the storm hit. David and I threw our clothes (some of mine dirty) in a suitcase, as well as all of our stuff to bake cookies, and two dogs since we were dog sitting for our friends.
