A Young Wife’s Tale

David and I took a little weekend getaway this weekend. Well, actually it was a staycation, but we slept in our guest bedroom and showered in the guest bath, so it felt like a getaway. Because of David’s arthritis, we couldn’t go do all the fun Dallas stuff, but it’s okay, we’ve lived here all our lives and we’ve been to the Arboretum, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Summer Musicals many times. So, here’s an overview of a weekend staycation, chronic illness style.

When David and I were first married we both worked full time. He did help around the apartment and later the house. Even before we were married I told him, “I don’t take out the trash. I don’t mow the lawn. That’s man’s work.” I grew up with three brothers. I’ve never even started a lawn mower.

Chronic illness and chronic pain really screw up your dating life. You can’t plan things in advance because you don’t know how you’ll feel next month. All your money is going to doctors and you hurt so much you can’t do most active things.
