WFMW – Motivation for Dreaded Chores

works for me wednesday

Works for Me Wednesday is hosted by We Are THAT Family. Click here to read more great advice.

Although I love being a housewife, there are some chores that I really dread. How do I motivate myself to do them? I use a reward system just like you might use for children. Sometimes I reward myself with dessert, or sometimes I’ll let myself read a chapter of a great book once I’ve completed a terrible task. You could tell yourself you get to call a friend or take a walk once you’ve done your dreaded chore. I had a friend in grade school that lit a candle that smelled amazing while she was doing homework.

Another trick? Post “ironing” or “working on taxes” as your Facebook or Twitter status. You’ve just told a bunch of people you’re doing something, so you’d better do it!

How do you motivate yourself to complete those tasks you loathe?

Love,
A Young Wife

I find that creating a list of what I need to do and crossing off items as I complete them gives me an incentive to finish. Speaking of which….I’d better get on to the next thing on my list! :)

Let’s see. The only way to motivate me to clean and de-clog the shower is to have the bath almost run over on me during a short shower. Other chores I try to tackle in the morning. I find I have more motivation then. I don’t get a lot of “free” time with a 9-month-old, so I don’t reward myself much. I also have learned to live with the house less than perfect. Time with the baby is more important to me!

Hello, there! This sounds kind of funny, but I make a list of all the things I must do and cross off as i go along. Even little things like call dr office, and I feel so accomplished when I mark them off and I can see that I actually was productive!

Also, treating myself to a Big Train Vanilla Chai tea from my local coffee stand is usually the extra inspiration I need to clean my bathtub. :)

Lol…I put on the skinny jeans I own, see the muffin top and decide that yes – exercise is important and a must do today!!!

Great idea…we all can use a reward when we accomplish a task..especially one we don’t like. I do the same thing.

Thanks for stopping by on SITS Day (last week)!

I like the idea of posting to FB or Twitter- Nothing better than a little self created peer pressure!

Do you ever just look at the pile of dishes and think I just CAN’T do them? I put on my Ipod on my favorite old songs and go to it. Nobody else hears the foolish old rubbish I am listening to and sometimes I forget the time passing.
