Seventh Generation Cleaning Products Giveaway

5 Apr

Random Number Generator has selected Maegan Johnson as the winner! Congratulations, Maegan!

I’m so happy to do this Seventh Generation Cleaning Products Giveaway just in time for spring cleaning!

Here’s some information about the product package from My Blog Spark and Seventh Generation.

Replacing what´s currently under your sink with products that are non-toxic and safe for the environment is easier than ever with Seventh Generation´s environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Leading the “responsible cleaning” charge for the past twenty years, Seventh Generation has tapped into the disinfecting power of the herb thyme, to introduce an EPA registered line of disinfecting sprays and wipes that kill germs* naturally! The new line of botanical disinfectant cleaners includes a multi-surface cleaning spray, bathroom cleaning spray and wipes.

The disinfectants contain thymol, a component of the herb thyme, and can be used on hard surfaces including counter tops, plastic cutting boards, highchair trays as well as children´s toys. Best of all, they kill over 99.99 percent of germs* naturally and are effective against the Influenza A Virus, including H1N1.

Seventh Generation has partnered with eco-lifestyle consultant and author, Alexandra Zissu, whose new book, The Conscious Kitchen, discusses what´s good for your health, what´s good for the planet and what tastes great. Her book also includes great tips on maintaining a green and healthy kitchen, including:

* Change is Good
Choosing cleaning products without indoor air pollutants like volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, is a simple and effective way to reduce your indoor air pollution. If you´re not prepared to switch everything overnight, start by swapping out the one product you use the most, and moving forward from there.

* Think before you spray
Residues from cleaning products can last on a surface for longer than we we´d like to know and travel to areas that we sometimes don´t intend them to. Don´t contaminate your food by prepping it on a surface that may contain harsh chemical residues – rinse cleaning products from food preparation surfaces carefully or use botanical disinfecting cleaners that do not require a rinse step.

Seventh Generation Products Giveaway

The cleaning products arrived at our house the same day the movers did. It was perfect timing. Since our house was empty, we spent a few nights at my parents’ house. I used the bathroom cleaner to clean the bathroom we used there. It worked very well, although the fragrance wasn’t my cup of tea. David said the bathroom smelled clean. And if you’ve read my blog for awhile, you know that I don’t like most fragrances in cleaning products and detergents, so often I make my own.

I used the all purpose cleaner on the kitchen sink and counters and even our electric toothbrush (unplugged of course!). I was very happy with the results. I typically use rags for cleaning, but I tested the paper towels. I’d never used unbleached paper towels at home before. They worked just as well as bleached. I tested the wipes on doorknobs and light switch plates. I was surprised at how durable they felt. Almost like a cloth rag.

To enter to win a product package like the one I received, just leave a comment telling me what the best thing you’ve done for the environment this year is. Giveaway ends April 12! One winner will be chosen at random.

Seventh Generation products, information and the additional prize pack to give away were all given to me from Seventh Generation through MyBlogSpark.

OHH! Shiny! I’ve wanted to try these cleaning products for a while now!

I bought reusable clothe grocery bags (that I actually use) and if I have too many groceries I ask for paper instead of plastic. The plastic bags I get from other stores I reuse as trashcan liners for the bathrooms and office.I recycle my magazines and newspapers.

I don’t know if this counts but I buy all my books on my Kindle so I guess that’s one less tree and I also buy all my music on iTunes, skipping the plastic CD case and paper cover.

We recently replaced one of our toilets with one of those super efficient, low-flush ones…it’s great! Better for the environment, uses less water, and saves us money.

The best thing I have done for the environment is using seventh generation products (or similar products) for all of my household cleaning!

I recycle religiously and encourage others to do so :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!

I would love to try the products! I’m always concerned about harsh chemicals that the little hands in my household are touching even after the cleaning is supposed to be over.

I have consciously tried to repurpose, reuse, or recycle this year. Our big trash cart only goes out to the curb with one or two bags each week, while the same size recycle cart is full.

I am a recycle-aholic to the point of annoying. Every week I drive down to the recycle center to dump our recycleables, since our apartment didn’t have any service. I am a huge fan of Clorox’s green works but have heard seventh generation is amazing. Hope I win!

Best thing…hmmm I think it’s be more consistant in my recycling efforts, and protecting my personal “forest” (my heavily wooded 5 acres).

I have stocked all 3 cars with reusable tote bags. My daughter and husband are also remembering to take them into the store. Partly it was just having enough bags that there were extras in each car.
Started looking at garage sales and many times people would be giving away beachbags and various canvas totes that were advertising giveaways.

I’ve started using reusable cloth shopping bags when I go grocery shopping. I don’t always remember to take them with me, but I’m starting to get in the habit!

We buy produce and eggs locally thru a CSA program and try to eat organic whenever possible. We also recycle and use eco-friendly products and compost for our garden :) Thanks for the chance to win these wonderful products!!

We plant about 100 trees a year (saplings) on our property. Usually 40-60% make it. We have lots of red and white pine, as well as fruit and nut trees. Might get some apples from our trees this year! These cleaning products look cool!

I’ve started recycling like a maniac. I have almost no trash after two weeks now. I recycle nearly everything and separate. I also drive less to save gas = money & the environment.

  13. Andrea April 6, 2010 at 10:17 AM #

I like seventh gen products. I use them and Shaklee and do as much as I can to avoid using harsh chemicals! I recycle all I can and recently found a place to take my glass since they won’t pick it up with our other recycling. We usually only have to put our trash out every other week since we recycle so much. I use reusable bags when shopping and we use Sigg bottles to refill with water! I’m sure we could be doing more though!

Best thing I have done for the environment is definitely recycle, recycle, recycle! I also use reusable bags which definitely cuts down on plastic bags.

We are very active recylers and I recycle nearly everything that we can. But the best thing I’ve done this year is actively use freecycle.org to give away many things I may have trashed before. The whole concept is to reuse items. I made a lot of people happy with things I’ve given away and decluttered in the process.

    Hi,

I came from SITS! What a fun giveaway! I have instituted a lot of eco-friendly habits in our household:

    -recycle more, throw away less
    -use energy-saver cf lightbulbs
-use reusable bags (even for produce!)
    -line dry when possible
-walk rather than drive when possible

    but my favorite two are:

-cloth diapering my 17 month old (he hasn’t used a disposable since he was 7 days old.)
    -join Freecycle to reuse community-wide!

and this summer we’ll be adding composting to the list, I’m waiting for my new composter to arrive any day now!

  18. Lawanna April 6, 2010 at 8:17 PM #

    I can’t name just one — so here’s a few…
+ using reusable bags more often (got in the habit of bringing them into the store)
+ recycling more – I make the extra effort because we don’t have curbside recycling like we used to….one day….
+ printing coupons on the back of school papers
+ only printing coupons that I really think I’ll use
+ buying a new laser printer and recycling the old one
+ encouraged schools to recycle more (still working on this one)
+ don’t go shopping….seriously…I’ve been really trying to not buy things that we don’t need.

    Loving this giveaway!

We recycle of course, but we also do a lot in the way of recycled crafts.

Also members of Freecycle….we’ve passed along many great treasures that we no longer were using as well as “rescued” plenty of treasures. Keeping them out of landfills!

I’ll soon be entering my 9th year as a vegetarian. I think that’s the best thing I do for the environment each year.

Moved to a neighborhood that recycles

  22. jengd April 7, 2010 at 3:04 PM #

I’m a bit of a rabid recycler. I’ve never understood why items that are coded 1′s and 2′s can’t be recycled in a lot of neighborhoods (ours included) unless they have necks (bottles basically.) However, our parents, who live 4 hours away, now can so we store up all of our “non-recyclable recyclables” and take them every time we visit the family. It seems crazy but we usually take a full garbage bag with us (yogurt containers, take out containers, “gently-used” foil, etc.) so it makes me a lot happier. Also I try to Freecycle as much as possible.

I’ve been wanting to go green to clean, I’ve just been waiting until I run out of the products that I have. I did buy some rags so I will not be using paper towels when I clean. We are also committed to recycling.

  24. Joanna April 8, 2010 at 9:08 AM #

Signed up for an organic CSA. Eating local :)

I switched to fabric napkins instead of paper ones. I save so much money and the Earth is blessed as well!

    I’d love

The best thing I’ve done for the environment is adopt a raw food lifestyle.

  28. Ally M April 9, 2010 at 12:48 AM #

We switched from plastic and paper grocery bags to cloth at the beginning of this year. It’s one of the best things we have done recently as we are pretty green overall.

The best thing I’ve done for the environment this year is re-use baggies and use my clothesline non-stop! Yay!

I have wanted to try the 7th Generation products ever since I saw them in the grocery store, but have never had the guts to purchase the unknown. This would be a perfect way to try out something NEW. Thank you for the opportunity!

This year I have gave up household cleaners (except for the odd bleaching every so often). I am now a vinegar girl! I am also more aware of unplugging unused appliances.

The best thing I’ve done for the environment this year is get involved with my nine year old daughter and her passion and love for being more green. Her favorite motto when she’s see’s someone doing anything that could harm the environment is “don’t they know their killing the polar bears”. She’s very passionate and thankfully she’s teaching me too.
