Luby’s Post – By Request

23 Aug

David and I went to Luby’s for lunch after church on Sunday. He told me I should blog about it. So, here’s the Luby’s post, by request.

Luby’s always makes me think of my grandparents. They loved the cafeteria and Denny’s. My mother has a full set of Christmas goblets that my grandparents got from Denny’s on one of those free glass with a meal deals.

There aren’t many cafeterias left around here, but there is one near our house.
My brothers were delighted to find out about this. Brother #1 always orders chopped steak. Brother #2 orders liver and onions. We were strange children.

Luby’s is the only restaurant where I will order fried fish. I suggested we eat there so that David could order healthy vegetables.

Since David is not quite so familiar with the magic of Luby’s, I told him he should order the chopped steak like Brother #1. Well, Brother #1, you’d better tell us how you order it, cause what they served David looked nothing like what you get. His came slathered in cheese and chives. So much for the “healthy” idea.

Luby’s feeds my OCD. They put everything on separate plates. Nothing touches. They ask and never assume you want tartar sauce!

My broccoli was perfect. And the okra! Oh, blissful, Sourthern delight!

Have I mentioned I really enjoy food? Would you like for me to describe all my meals? I can. In minute detail. I think I missed my calling as a food critic.

I remember the glasses from Denny’s. I think we sold the last one at a garage sale not too long ago…

I love Luby’s and it reminds me of my grandparents, too. I always either get the fish or the veggie plate.

They really do have great veggies. I should get the veggie plate next time.

[...] it smells and tastes kind of like broccoli, but not as good. And I love broccoli. Read my post on Luby’s Cafeteria if you don’t believe me. I won’t be making kale chips [...]
