Don’t Commission Artwork for Father’s Day
21 May
With Father’s Day a month away, I thought I should extend some gift giving advice.
Don’t commission art for your father for Father’s Day. It’s just not a good idea.
There was a woman in my humanities class in college who showed me some of her beautiful artwork. One of her paintings in particular made me think of my parents. It was a gorgeous painting of an old, Spanish mission. I would have bought it from her, but she’d already promised it to someone else. So, I had the brilliant idea to commission another painting for my father.
There was this painting my father really liked. It was of an American flag. I took a picture of it to show her. I asked her to create something similar for my father for Father’s Day. My mother and I split the cost, which was considerable.
Mom and I were so anxious to see this painting. We went to the woman’s house and she unveiled…a soldier (that I could have drawn) in the middle of the desert saluting the flag. Most of the canvas was yellow for the sand. It was horrible. Not at all what we were expecting. And we’d already paid for it. So we gave it to him and told him it was a gag gift. I’m not sure if it’s in the garage or if he threw it away. If he still has it I’ll have to take a picture and post it.
Have you had any gift giving fiascoes?

That is the saddest story!! What a disappointment!

Bummer! No, I don’t think I have any fiascos like that.
What a let down. Hopefully it gave you something to laugh at together:)Stopping by from SITS!
WOW! I am so sorry. I think though if you had given her a photo and it was not like what you asked for she should have refunded your money. Or maybe do not pay in advance next time. I am so sorry that it didn’t work out for you! It is a good thing you can laugh about it now though!
