Should I Put This Dress in the Rummage Sale Pile?

12 May

I need your opinions. Should I put this dress in the rummage sale pile?

The only way I’ll need it again is if David and I take another cruise. We had so much fun on our cruise, we’d love to do it again. However, David’s arthritis is so bad, that right now I can’t imagine us taking another one. They don’t have bathtubs on cruise ships, so David wouldn’t be able to soak his back twice a day. Do they have hot tubs? I don’t remember. Also, we had to stand in line with our luggage for a few hours getting on and off the ship. David couldn’t do that right now.

So, should I keep the dress in hopes that one day David will be well enough to go on another cruise, or give it to the church rummage sale? The church is raising money to help our youth go to youth camp. It’s a worthy cause. And, if I get rid of the dress, I’d have one less thing to pack when we move.

What are your thoughts?

    Keep the dress.

I think that you should keep the dress.

God tells us to put our faith and trust in Him, even when we don’t understand what is going on around us. He is faithful and He loves us, even more than we can comprehend.

The Bible tells us that Job went through a period of illness and God brought him through it. God even blessed Job greater than before and Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

Cast all your cares upon Him for He careth for you.

    Love,
    Darlene

At the risk of going against the majority at this point, I vote you put it in the sale. Not because you won’t go on another cruise one day, God-willing, but so that someone else can wear it in the meantime. AND, bonus, if you do go again, you can get a new one! :)

    I agree with Laura!

Hmmmm…it’s a tough one, but I think I am going to go with Kasey and Laura. When you go on your next vacation together, (maybe it won’t be a cruise, maybe it will), but you can get something new to wear!

Keep it then decide what to do with it after it gets cold during the fall.

I am downsizing my life away and am now left with pretty much only clothes I’m embarrassed to go to WalMart in. I am also on a very tight budget and can’t imagine ever having enough extra to ever go out and buy another pair of jeans (let alone a dress) except from GoodWill. I wish, oh I wish, I hadn’t gotten rid of a specific dress I had. I have no where to wear it and probably couldn’t fit into it once I ever had the chance, but that dress had memories and made me feel oh so pretty.

That being said, my vote is to hang onto it. You just never know.

I vote you give it away. We are supposed to help those in need, and it sounds like if you donate it you would be doing just that. If you end up going on a cruise right after you give it away, you can borrow one from me or buy a new one. God provides in mysterious ways! Perhaps you’ll find just the perfect dress on sale, in your size, with matching shoes.

Everyone has such good points! I’m just going to go with the majority vote. This is a comment from my mother.

“You remember the old wives tale, ‘You never need something until you throw it away?’ Let’s hope for that one! Maybe if you get rid of it, David will suddenly feel great and want to take another cruise!”

    Keep it. :)

I think you should sell it.

Flylady says, “Keep the memories, lose the clutter!” though, if I had a great dress like that and I fit in it, I would keep it for date nights–even if I was cooking! But if you are keeping it just in case or just to look at, bless someone else! I agree with your mother–every time I get rid of my maternity clothes I get pregnant! I wonder whether I should keep them or give them away! ;)

David cast the deciding vote. He bought the dress for me, so he wants me to keep it. Thank you all so much for your insight and encouragement.
