Maybe David Does Have Fibromyalgia in Addition to Arthritis
9 Sep
Maybe David does have fibromyalgia in addition to psoriatic arthritis. I was so skeptical when the New Jersey rheumatologist said David might have fibromyalgia, but David swears the Lyrica is helping with the pain. I guess maybe those doctors do learn a thing or two in medical school. We were so blessed that the doctor had six sample bottles of Lyrica to give us so we could really give it a good trial before we have to start paying for it.
The rheumatologist now has David’s file from the Texas’ rheumatologist, so I’m anxious for his appointment in two weeks. I can’t wait to hear what he says now that he has David’s original labs and bone scan.
David has been seeing the acupuncturist and the chiropractor each week. The weather has been cooler, and David has been working overtime without flaring, so we are very thankful for that.
We’re waiting to hear back from the folks at Humira about our financial assistance. David received free Humira for the past year because our insurance doesn’t cover it, and we spend 10% of our gross income on medical expenses. Hopefully we’ll be approved again this year!
We had dinner with some friends from church on Labor Day. It’s really good to be making friends. I’ve been crafting a lot lately, knitting socks for Christmas presents and making ornaments since all our decorations are still in storage.
I found the directions for these ornaments here and here at Remodelaholic.
I’m still struggling to find gluten free dairy free recipes without tomatoes or peppers. This recipe for gluten free meatloaf is David’s favorite new dish (although it does have ketchup). I use less sugar than it calls for, and I substitute rice milk for regular milk. We also like this recipe for Cilantro Lime Chicken. I modified it by using less cinnamon and sugar than it calls for.
That’s what’s going on in our world. We’re also gearing up for National Chronic Invisible Illness Awareness Week. Stay tuned for a special podcast from David and I about Chronic Illness and Christmas!

Ashley, what kind of recipes are you looking for? Main meals or snacks? I’m sure I’ve got something somewhere. Can email me your direct email and I’ll send you anything I think you & David might be interested in? What kinds of foods/cuisine do you like? My email is ajandme@gci.net.

So very cool that Lyrica is helping him. It made me so dizzy I couldn’t stay on it. Fibromyalgia is VERY real…and MANY times autoimmune diseases “pair up” or worse… I have all of the “tender points” for fibro, and some days, a lot of pain. I SO wish Lyrica had worked for me. Praying all your medical expenses are met beyond your expectations!
So excited the Lyrica is working… (I had originally typed Lycra & then just envisioned a bad 80′s aerobic outfit) haha!!!!
LOVE your little ornaments!!! Love a crafty-gal!
Hi, came over from SITS – good luck with David’s illness. I know on a much smaller scale how challenging chronic pain can be.
Ashley, your site is so helpful! Wow, wonderful that Lyrica is helping! My rheumatologist wants me on it but I can’t afford it right now. My doctor keeps telling me over and over he thinks that even though I have psoriatic arthritis, he thinks the current pain is from fibromyalgia. I did not realize how much fibro could make you hurt. I am having so much back pain but an ‘excellent sed rate and no inflammatory markers’. It’s a puzzle I have lost patience with! I hope all the financial things work out, and trust they will! I know how expensive chronic illness and the medicines are! Wouldn’t you know my insurance company put a high deductible on drug coverage right before I was diagnosed! Hoping things keep getting better and better for y’all!
I love the ornaments you made!
Keeping my fingers crossed that you get approved for the Humira again.
With all the advertising targeting women, I had no idea that men took Lyrica. Hope it works well for him. And I adore your ornaments!
Oh, goodness. Prayers to you in trying to figure some of this out.
