Henry
24 May
The best thing for David’s arthritis has four legs and a tail. His name is Henry. As bad as it hurts to get out of the bed in the morning, it would hurt worse if David didn’t get out of bed and Henry had an accident that David had to clean it up.
We rescued him from the pound when he was three months old. I bought him for David as an anniversary present.
So David thinks Henry is his puppy.
But I know he’s mine. I paid for him. I clean up his poop.
Then again, David does take him for walks. Although, I feed him.
As soon as we got him from the shelter, we took him to Petco and bought him everything. Shampoo, brushes, toys, treats, a collar, a dog bed, food and water bowls. He was really scared for the first 24 hours we had him. So scared that he jumped out of the shopping cart and landed head first on the concrete as we exited the store.
We thought we’d killed our dog that we’d owned for less than an hour. He just shook it off.
The first time David took Henry to the vet, he was treated for kennel cough. The vet made David hold Henry down while they squirted stuff up his nose. David came home and told me that when we have children, I will be the one taking them for their shots.
As it turned out, the medicine didn’t work. Henry’s kennel cough developed into pneumonia. He was one sick puppy. He was fine after some anti-biotics.
Henry is a calm dog. He only barks to tell us something, such as someone is putting a flyer on the front door. I feel safer with Henry than with our alarm system.
We love Henry so much. We actually had professional pictures taken with him.
He’s a great dog, and he keeps David active. But he’s really mine.
Love,
A Young Wife
P.S. David cast the final vote on the dress for the rummage sale. I’m keeping it. David wanted me to keep it because he bought it for me. Thank you all so much for your insight and encouragement.
