Back 2 Life Machine for Back Pain
13 Jun
David’s parents bought him a new gadget called Back 2 Life. It’s a machine that stretches your lower back.
The machine just moves your legs up and down slowly and gently. This stretches your lower back. It’s got a timer, so it stops after about ten minutes. David really likes it. It helps him loosen up.
There are also several stretches for the back David does on his own. He soaks twice a day in a hot bath filled with Epsom Salts. During a flare up he’ll use a heating pad or wear a heat patch. I even bought him Dr. Scholl’s shoe inserts for back pain. He sees a chiropractor and is about to start seeing an acupuncturist.
What do you do for back pain? Any tips or tricks?

Wow–looks like a cool contraption. I’ve never heard of it, but I’ll be praying that it keeps helping David. I use a big exercise ball to help with my back pain. My chiropractor gave me some exercises to do with it. I don’t know that it really helps, but it doesn’t hurt so I try to use it several times a week anyway.
I love the big exercise balls! You can get such a great core workout with them.
Make sure he sleeps with a proper neck pillow…kindof like that one in those pictures. Also, he needs a pillow (or some sort of cushion) under his knees when he sleeps…it takes the strain off your back. He may be doing those things already, but that’s my 2 cents.
Oh, and Biofreeze (or something similar) might also help him during flare ups.
David sometimes sleeps with a pillow in between his knees or under his knees, but I need to remind him to do it every night. That really does help. What is Biofreeze? Where do you buy it? We’ll try anything!
I use BioFreeze now and again, too, and it does provide a little temporary relief. I’ve never actually bought it thought–just been given free samples. Check at a drugstore–I shouldn’t be too hard to find. I think I’ll look for some myself!
Hey Ashley,
Biofreeze is awesome! Ask your chiropractor is he or she has any samples or if they can’t get you any. The cheapest place we found it is online. Go to amazon.com and look for Biofreeze. I always divide the price by the number of ounces to make sure I’m getting the best deal. They have so many different size bottles and stuff.
The roll on stuff is really nice because then you don’t get your hands all full of gunk and then rub your eye or something. (Oh yes, I’ve done that!).
We also use ice instead of heat for the inflamation.
Godo luck!
I have only ever gotten BioFreeze at the chiropractor. Were you able to locate it? Also, David might want to consider beginners yoga…maybe that would help? When I was doing it, I felt so much better and had less aches and pains. Also, in my class was a man that had had several back surgeries so the instructor just always gave a modified, low impact pose. We also had couples in our class, various skill levels, and people of all ages– very unintimidating and comfortable.
Maybe David and I should take a yoga class together. It could be a date! I forgot to ask the chiropractor about BioFreeze. I’ll make sure to ask next week.
Ah, This is awesome! Puts to bed
a few contradictions I’ve been hearing.
sometimes i get backaches due to long hours of working at computers.–.
My lower back has been acting up for the last three months and I have been trying everything you could imagine. I have purchased the back2life machine and been trying it for over a month now, it helps but not as much as I expected. Recently, one of my co-worker gave me some tips to try the gravity machine. I found one at the ACADEMY over the past weekend for $129.00 + taxes. It took a while to assemble the machine and a little assistant from my Son to adjust the correct height and weight (by the way, the machince can handle max 250lbs). I have used it just three times so far (about 5 to 7 minutes each time) and I can feel the big different. It basically helps decompressed the lower back spine that locked together and pushed agaist the nerves that bother my left leg and thigh. I would recommend trying the machine withe empty stomach and take it slow, follow instruction in the manual. BTY, I walked over 10 minutes today to the food court in the mall for lunch, that’s is incredible! Give it a try to see if it works for you. Don’t give up. I’m still working on mine. Good luck.
That’s great advice! Thanks for sharing. The Back2Life machine helps David, but it’s most helpful when he’s in a lot of pain and needs assistance with very gentle stretching. I’ve heard good things about the anti gravity machines. I’m so glad it’s helping you!
I’m back. Just an update since the last time we talked. I spent three 1-hour acupuncture with some chinese herbs at a local Chinese treatment center in Houston. I spent $420 out of pocket since my medical insurance doesn’t cover it. This has helped somewhat and has allowed me completed my field work in the field in NT Australia. On the way back the States, I spent a week in Da Nang Viet Nam visited family and friends. I ended up with seven 1-hour sections /treatment (both chan cuu and suction cups. I was so amaze 95%-99% my tingling/burning pain went away. I’m back the State now and with help of the herb I have been taking for the last two weeks, I hope to walk with pain free soon.,thought I should share so others can experience. Good luck.
