My Knee

14 May

Somehow I tripped and fell hard on my right knee cap. Did I mention I was in a skirt? My father a paramedic, turned around, saw me on the ground and said, “Don’t move!” I tend to obey my father, and since he is a paramedic you’d think I would have listened, but at that moment I thought, “Heck, no! I’m getting my weight off my knee!” My mother and baby brother came up behind me. Everyone sprang into action. They brought me an ice pack and Advil. We didn’t think it was broken, so we went out to eat. And hey! My tights didn’t even rip!

Aunt Bettie, Are You Reading This?

13 May

You’ve gifted me with your knack for making friends wherever you go. Your ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers wherever you are. It’s a delightful gift to have. Except, see, here’s the problem. I’m not the one striking up conversations.

Wisdom Teeth

8 May

***Warning. Do not read this post if you need to have your wisdom teeth pulled!***

My surgery was scheduled for five o’clock in the afternoon. I wasn’t allowed to eat anything after mid-night the night before. I now know how ridiculous that is. Ten or twelve hours fasting would have been plenty. The surgery was performed in my regular dentist’s office.

As I walked back with the oral surgeon I asked him, “How do you become an oral surgeon? Do you become a dentist and then go to medical school?” His reply, “Well, I’m not actually an oral surgeon. I’m a dentist that specializes in extracting wisdom teeth.”

That’s right. He wasn’t an oral surgeon. He was going to knock me out, and he hadn’t even gone to medical school. Don’t worry, it gets worse.

Marco…

6 May

I seem to get food poisoning at least once a year. I have a very serious problem with TMJ Disorder. I was sick for six weeks after I had my wisdom teeth pulled. More about that later.

Right now let’s talking about playing games in swimming pools. Never let your child close their eyes and walk around in the pool. It’s not safe. This is what will happen.

Are you ready?

It’s pretty graphic.

I’m warning you.

What We’ve Lost

3 May

David and I have lost many things due to his chronic illness. Our youth and our newlywed years, for instance. We’ve certainly lost a lot of money. Specialists are expensive! Due to the medication David has to take, we’ve lost the ability to have children right now.
