The Christmas Tree is Up

4 Dec

My mother came over before Thanksgiving and helped me put up the Christmas tree. It was so nice coming back from our trip and having the tree already up. I have a six feet tall artificial tree (No real trees for severe allergy sufferers.), but this year I made it four feet and put it on my dining room table. The house has been rearranged so much this year, and we don’t really have room for it in our living room.

Plus, Henry can’t get any ornaments this way. Well, actually, he can put his front paws on the table and reach stuff, but it’s less of a temptation than having it at ground level.

Some people collect spoons from different places when they travel. I collect Christmas ornaments.
Sea shell ornament
I got this ornament made out of seashells when we went to Jamaica.
bluebonnet ornament
Bluebonnets are the Texas state flower, and I got this one on our recent trip to San Antonio.
butterfly ornament
This one is from Arizona. The Desert Museum in Tucson is really great, and they have a butterfly sanctuary.

I got this lion and lamb from Bronner’s in Michigan on a trip with David’s family.

cruise ship ornament
And of course, the cruise ship is from our honeymoon.

Is your tree up? How do you decorate your tree?

I need to get mine out and set it up. I can’t believe it’s December already!

I love your tree. I decorate mine with places I’ve been to. We have a starfish w/sunglasses ornament from Florida; a ball ornament with sand in it from our cruise; a miniature arch from St. Louis (it wasn’t really an ornament–but it is now!). Enjoy your Christmas!

What a great idea (tree on table)! I decorate with mostly red and white bulbs. I love the candy cane effect. They are the bulbs with silky hair strands (called what?), and therefore, not breakable. We also collect ornaments from memorable places…sailboat from honeymoon, baby ornaments, and a mini-Starbucks mug ornament purchased last week. I have to find the arch I purchased to use as an ornament too while on vacation this summer. Thanks for the reminder, Lisa! We are going to branch out this year and get a real tree…I can’t wait!!!

Our tree has been up since the middle of October because we were going away for Thanksgiving and thought it would be too much to do after the holiday. I was really right about that! Anyways, it has been wonderful turning the lights on every morning and enjoying the tree. God is so wonderful! I pray He brings you many wonderful blessings this Christmas season! Thank you father for sending your only begotten son, JESUS!

I also have ornaments from everywhere that Jason and I have been or that mark significant events in our life. I also have ornaments from our childhoods, ornaments from students, and tons that were homemade or gifts from others…it’s a sentimental mish-mash and I love it!! I do hope to one day have an additional tree that I decorate with a theme (I want to have an all black/white/red tree and have been collecting ornaments for that).

We bought our tree! A 7 foot douglas fir from Home Depot – $25. :) Its not decorated yet, but the house smells wonderful! And, if anyone has allergies, we will know shortly. :)
