Political Post

23 Apr

This is my first and hopefully only political post. It’s just not what my blog is about. If you disagree with me politically, and it’s your first time reading, I hope you’ll read a different post or come back another day.

First of all, I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I am completely dissatisfied with both parties.

I do not want socialized health care. David and I both have chronic illnesses. I think that gives us extra qualification to say we don’t want it. We are super health care users. We know how bad the system is, and socialized medicine is not the answer.

We are in favor of stricter regulations on pharmaceutical companies and limitations on malpractice lawsuits. Those two things would be a great start to lowering the cost of health care in our country.

I’ve heard some people say that conservatives thought that social security was the end of the world, and we’re still fine, so socialized health care won’t be the end of the world. I’ll ignore the first part, and get right to the bit about health care.

We already have socialized health care for some people, and it’s a mess. In fact, one of my aunts recently went on Medicare, and she cannot see her specialist any more. She even offered to pay him cash, but he legally cannot see her. That scares me. As a person with chronic pain, let me tell you: I want to be able to see the specialist I chose. I’ve heard that this issue with Medicare is changing, but I hope you see my point.

Finally, I am not an extremist. The reason I decided to write this post is because I read and heard that people who attend TEA Party rallies are extremists one too many times. I attended a TEA Party in Dallas. (It was great because they didn’t let any political officials speak at that particular rally.) However, just because I attended that rally does not mean I think violence against our elected officials is acceptable.

Get a clue people. I know some vegetarians who’ve never poured red paint on people buying fur. Go read 1 Timothy 2:1-2 and Romans 13. We Americans are blessed and privileged to live in a country where we get to participate in our government. I hope we all take advantage of these privileges.

Thank you,
A Young Wife

    Clap clap clap clap! Brava!
I am SO with you. I, too, am a bit nervous about socialized medicine. My husband’s insurance company already kicked me to Medicare last July, because they could, legally, since I’m on disability, and his employer has less than 100 employees. (Can you say small town city government?)

Thankfully I still have his insurance as a secondary, so they pay for all my prescriptions. If I didn’t have secondary insurance, as MOST people on Medicare do NOT…I would be hosed. Completely. And probably dead if not for the the grace of God.

I, too, am neither Republican nor Democrat. They all have been frightfully disappointing.
