My Recovery from David’s Flare

20 Sep

David’s doing okay. Not great, but he’s able to go to work. He even took Henry for a short walk Saturday morning.

I don’t know how it is for other well spouses, but it takes me weeks to recover from one of David’s flares. I’m so tired. David hasn’t been sleeping well from the pain, so I’m not sleeping well either Mostly, I’m still recovering mentally.

We rescheduled our Open House for Sunday the 27th. I really want to cancel this one, too. Remember the tornado that didn’t do any damage? Well, the tree in our back yard has been leaning quite a bit ever since then. After the week of rain here in Dallas, it’s now apparent that the tree will have to be cut down. So, I’m trying to convince David that that’s why we need to cancel the open house. But really, I just don’t think I can get the house staged in a week.

The house isn’t that bad. It’s just not in “Open House” condition. It would look a whole lot worse if it wasn’t for all our friends and family that brought us meals. That was such a blessing! And not just because I was too tired to cook. While David was flaring, we had food delivered a few times, and ate out once. That completely blew my grocery budget.

I’m very much in survival mode. I feel like we’ve been in survival mode since January, but these few weeks after a flare, it’s like extreme survival. We just do what we must. Things are very point A to point B, if that makes any sense.

More later.

Hubby and Dad have planned to rev up the chainsaw and remove the tree. You just call if that needs to be sooner than later.

Praying that you have a good week and many restful nights. Ready to see what the Lord has in store with the medicine this week!

Just do what you can do with the house and remember that HE is in control. If the house is going to sell, it will not be because of anything in our power, but in HIS alone. If you want some help, I’m kid free on Thursday morning, just let me know!

    Hey Ashley!

You mean there is another way to live with chronic illness that ISN’T extreme survival?? ; ) Girl, I TOTALLY know what you mean…having a 3 year old at 38 (almost 39!) and a chronic illness…extreme survival is a great way to put it.

So glad David is doing some better…and can’t wait to hear the positive reports about the Humira!

Mel, thank you so much. I don’t know how we’d survive without such great family. And you’re so right. God is in control. Nothing happens that isn’t His will.

Kerri, I love talking to you because I know you’ve been there. I truly cannot imagine dealing with a 3 year old in the midst of all of this. Especially since we teach the three year olds in Sunday School at our church. They’ve delightful. But we couldn’t care for the 24/7. And David’s never even been hospitalized. Listening to some of the podcasts from National Chronic Invisible Awareness Week has made me realize (again) that it could be so much worse.

    Hello Young Wife.

I too have PSA – unfortunately I did not present with Psoriasis first – I am one of the 15% that presented with the arthritis initially and took over 13 years for a DX. I clearly understand the pain of PSA and the effect it has on every day life’s tasks.

My husband also has a debilitiating disease – i just wanted to acknowledge that we too have a menu somewhat like your household these days due to this darn disease.

I currently take Methotrexate (2.5 years) and Enbrel
(6 months) – Unfortunately I have not had any real success from either of them.

Best of luck to you and David.

    Kath (moi)
