Declutter Challenge – January
1 Feb
This month we did a pretty good job of decluttering. Total items removed from house: 25

David got rid of countless papers in our office. I suppose I could say we’ve already met our goal for the year, but rather than count pages, I’ll count file folders. David got rid of 16 files! I had check stubs going back 5+ years, files on companies we no longer use and a car we no longer own. Way to go David! Like I said, I can’t wait till we are retired!
I went through my manicure and pedicure caddy and got rid of 2 bottles of nail polish.
I gave away 2 pairs of jeans.
I cleaned out the pantry. It wasn’t too bad, but I pulled everything out and wiped down the shelves. I got rid of 1 scoop that I kept in the brown sugar container but I never use, 2 expired mixes, 1 packet of Duck Sauce, 1 package of hot chocolate because we have lots, and we never drink it. I also had to throw away a package of fettucine because as I was cleaning everything out, I knocked it over and spilled it all over the floor.
David and I stored some furniture at his parents house while our house was on the market. We’ve taken several things back, but a love seat remained at their house. David mentioned to his mother that we really didn’t need it and we were thinking of putting it on Craigslist. Well, bless my mother-in-law’s heart. She sold it! So yay for us! We’re decluttering our parents homes, too!
February looks to be a good decluttering month as we prepare for a garage sale! Check out Amy’s blog The Finer Things for more of the 730/365 Challenge.

You have got a really, really good mother-in-law!
Looks like you are off to a good start! And yes, you do have a wonderful mother-in-law!!
Wow! Great job for January! What a wonderful MIL!
We have so many files to go through and shred. Paper clutter is my nemesis. Hooray for your MIL! You’re off to a great start.
Sounds like an excellent start. Thanks for participating!
You would be so proud…I decluttered my toiletries closet and makeup drawers, and I’m ashamed to say that I got rid of TONS of stuff (and I did not count small items individually, sad I know). I trashed 52 items, returned 4
, and donated/garage sale-ing 56 others. I discovered that I had outdated medicine and sunscreens that need to be replaced. In my travel toiletry bag, I had a few items that expired in 2001. Yuck! I’m also going to finally let go of a vintage ’90′s cordless curling iron. I had trouble letting this go even though I haven’t used it in a decade. But, I am so happy that I only have what I use and will be able to (hopefully) find what I need when I need it.
Also, in January I set aside 12 sweaters for garage sale or donation, and I went through our used art supplies and eliminated unusable markers and filled coloring books and miscellaneous papers. It’s a start, I guess.
Wow, 730 sounds like a lot of stuff! Wishing you best of luck!
You’ll laugh…someone bought the cordless curling iron from the 1990′s at the garage sale last week.
