Bad News

3 Dec

I’ve got bad news, and it’s not even health related.

Yesterday I was chatting with the receptionist at my part time job about how thankful we are that David still has a job. He is a computer programmer, and he has worked as a contractor for a large company here in Dallas for two years. They got rid of most of their contractors last year. We are blessed that he is still employed, and that even though we have lousy health insurance, we’re grateful because some contracting companies don’t even offer it.

As soon as I got back to my desk, David called me and said, “I’ve got some bad news. They’re not renewing my contract.”

Oh, the irony! It was really weird hearing him say that, since I’d been talking about him only moments before. Like maybe he’d hacked some computers and was listening to my work conversations.

But it’s true. David’s contract ends December 31. The contracting company will probably work very hard to find David a new job so that they will not lose any money. That’s a big plus. Also, I have not purchased 90% of our Christmas presents, so we’re rethinking many of our gifts, and socking away that little bit of extra money just in case.

One more bit of irony? About an hour before David called me, the office manager at my part time job said he’d like to increase my hours. God has a strange way of doing things. :)

I’ve seen that happen so many times in our lives, as well–at times I’ve wondered (and worried) about where it was all going to come from, but it always does. Doesn’t mean we can be reckless, and we may not get everything we want, but we have everything we need and usually more.

Will be praying for you. We are also dealing with that right now. My job of 12 years was outsourced and then my husband was laid off from his job. Maybe there is a job ahead that will have wonderful insurance coverage.

You guys will be in my prayers, even though it sounds like the “big guy” has your back :)
